Irene S. Moeller, 98, of Sumner, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Susan Friedrich officiating. Interment will follow Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Tripoli. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made to Rachel Circle or the Senior Choir Fund at St. John Lutheran Church.
Irene Sophie, daughter of Henry and Sophie Sell Schilchting, was born March 10, 1915, at Tripoli, Iowa. She was baptized March 28, 1915 by Rev. Hankammer and confirmed April 13, 1930 by Rev. Hanff at St. John’s Lutheran Church, which is now Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. She graduated from Tripoli High School in May of 1934, and worked at the Waverly Café until 1937. On September 30, 1938, she was united in marriage with Raymond Adolph Guhlow whose death occurred January 20, 1958. Irene worked for a time at the Tripoli Schools as a cook. On June 1, 1961, she was married to Edwin Albert Moeller. Edwin’s death occurred December 23, 1986. Irene continued to make her home in Sumner and was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church. She became a resident of the Hillcrest Home in Sumner in April of 2007.
She is survived by one son, David Ray (Lorrie) Guhlow of Fort Collins, Colorado; one daughter, Marjean (Frederick) Huehbner of Sumner; one step daughter, Shirley (Eugene) Huck of Sumner; ten grandchildren; John Guhlow, Catherine (David) Mitchell, Joanna (John) Visser, Kristen (Derek) Bostrom, Eddie Huck, Col. Leslie (Darla) Huck, John (Anne) Dubler, David (Audra) Dubler, Jillian Conger (fiancé, Tyler Vorthmann), and Carolyn (Rick) Ramirez; ten great grandchildren, Leslie (Mayra) Huck, III, Captain Andy (Captain Mona Min) Huck, Heidi (David Cook, II) Huck Cook, Abby Saunders, Levi Woertz, Selene Conger, and Evelyn Conger, Lilli Dubler, and Noah Dubler; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Schlichting of Ohio.
In addition to her two husbands, Irene was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Harry Schlichting, and a sister-in-law, Ida Schlichting.
